Up to 18 years old, a child is insured for free through the health insurance of one of the parents. This also applies to the supplementary insurance. You do not pay any extra premium for this. Children up to 18 years do not have a compulsory excess. Is your child turning 18 soon? Read what you need to arrange here.
When you co-insure your child, it's important to look at the following:
It is an advantage to co-insure your child with the parent with the most extensive health insurance. The co-insurance does not cost extra and the child therefore has the coverage of the highest insured parent. Children are not automatically co-insured for separate modules or the supplementary dental insurance.
Does neither parent have a supplementary insurance that meet the needs of the child? Such as orthodontics? Then it is a good idea to take out supplementary insurance with one of the parents. At a.s.r. orthodontics is in the supplementary health insurance, not in the dental insurance.
Do you want to add your child to your insurance? You can easily do this in your a.s.r. account or in our app.
Has your baby been born? Congratulations! As soon as you have received a Citizen service number (‘BSN’), you can register your son or daughter in your a.s.r. account. It is important to report the birth to us within 4 months. Then the health insurance starts from the date of birth. If you report the birth after 4 months, the health insurance starts from the application date. This means that your baby is uninsured for a period of time and that costs from this period will not be reimbursed.
You can register your newborn baby in your a.s.r. account or in our app. It is handy to have the Citizen service number (‘BSN’) of your baby at hand.
From the month after your child turns 18, your child is no longer co-insured free of charge on your health insurance. You can choose to insure your child separately or keep them co-insured on your account.
Do you want to keep your child co-insured on your health insurance next year? Don’t forget to include them in your application. This way your child will be included in the switching service.
Are you not including your children in your application for health insurance? Then they won’t automatically be co-insured with you or included in the switching service.
